A couple weeks ago (which, suitable now, feels additional like a number of years!) we launched the debut solo exhibition of Pilbara-centered artist Maggie Green, ‘I Been Born There’. We labored on bringing this show to everyday living for over a 12 months with Maggie’s artwork centre, the wonderful group at Spinifex Hill Studio in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
Not only was this Maggie’s 1st solo show, it was the 1st TDF Acquire exhibition of 2020, and also our 1st exhibition of an Indigenous artist. We ended up so energized to have Maggie and Maddie Sharrock from Spinifex Hill Studio fly all the way from Western Australia (what would have been Maggie’s very first time in Melbourne!) for the opening. Because of to the immediate outbreak of Covid-19, sadly, we weren’t able to officially open this actually fantastic exhibition. Having said that, we nevertheless felt it was important to hold and document ‘I Been Born There’, to be witnessed in all its glory.
